A Sandy Aslett Exclusive- Designer Competition Headwear
This piece celebrates the ever-changing dance of light—how it moves across fabric, glints off metallic rainbow and lurex-threaded sinamay, and shimmers in memory. The hat base was hand-blocked by me using a custom wire block I designed and built myself, reflecting my deep connection to both traditional millinery and innovative design. Inspired by the joy of shared moments, the piece features layered holographic butterflies and florals in flight, symbolising celebration as a living, moving force. The sweeping rainbow sinamay echoes night skies lit by fireworks, sparkling parties, and the elegance of a gala. This design is an ode to the radiance we carry into special occasions—both grand and intimate—and the creative spark that brings them to life.
