The Queensland Boulder Opal Design Awards are a wonderful opportunity to combine creativity with one of Queensland's most extraordinary natural treasures.
For my 2026 entry, I designed a coordinated "His & Hers" wearable collection inspired by the colours, textures and beauty of the Winton landscape.
The ladies' hat features a sweeping sloping brim handcrafted from two-tone straw with a variegated edge representing the rugged layers of the outback. The focal point is a handmade feather flower in shades of apricot, ochre and burnt orange, centred with a magnificent Queensland Boulder Opal.
The gentleman's coordinating pocket ornament echoes the feather flower, bringing the collection together beautifully.
Working alongside Sunstate Jewellers was a pleasure, allowing the Boulder Opal to become the hero of the design.
Every competition offers the chance to challenge yourself creatively, and I'm grateful to have been part of this year's awards while celebrating Queensland craftsmanship, jewellery and wearable art.
Congratulations to all the deserving winners. My millinery is for sale now so please do not hesitate to contact me. M: 0400022303.
