I am truly honoured to share that my headpiece, “Celestial Wings,” has been selected as a Preliminary Finalist in the Lillian Frank AM MBE Millinery Award 2025, to be held on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day in Melbourne.
This ethereal creation was born from a heartfelt wish for peace, unity, and hope. Each organza petal was hand-cut, shaped, and wired into delicate wing like forms, set upon a fine wire headband to evoke flight, freedom, and celestial energy. Gentle silver arcs orbit gracefully, symbolising the interconnectedness of our world. Inspired by the dove a universal emblem of peace “Celestial Wings” honours sustainability, inclusivity, and compassion, offering a message of beauty and harmony through fashion.
After sharing Celestial Wings on social media, I was moved by the heartfelt responses from milliners and creatives worldwide.
💬 Ian Bennett (UK) — “Love it Sandy Aslett Milliner Designer Headwear!!! Great work, I love the flow of the whole piece. Big hugs x”
🇺🇸 Jan Wutkowski (USA) — “Smashing, Sandy!! Congratulations!”
🇬🇧 British Millinery Community — “Oh, this is magnificent.”
Their kind words capture what I hoped to express that millinery is storytelling every curve, petal, and wire can carry emotion, purpose, and peace.
As Celestial Wings prepares to take flight on Lexus Melbourne Cup Day, I remain deeply grateful for this recognition and for the global millinery community whose encouragement continues to inspire me to create with purpose and heart.
Enjoy Cheers Sandy Aslett
