Sandy Aslett Millinery in the Top 20 Finalists for 2021!

News from Melbourne

I am excited to announce that recently Sandy Aslett Milliner (AKA Hats by Sandy A) was chosen as one of the Top 20 Finalists in the Melbourne International Millinery Competition (MIMC2021). The MIMC competition was hosted by The Essential Hat and invited milliners from across the globe to respond to the theme “Little Black Dress”. Everyone has their own interpretation of what 'Little Black Dress' means as a classic item in your wardrobe. The entrants design and make a hat to suit the theme. The theme conjured different images for different milliners. Ideas included famous movie stars, the practical, classic, short and sparkly, elegantly restrained, gloriously glamorous and the outrageously theatrical.

This year was the fourth year Sandy Aslett had entered the Melbourne International Millinery Competition. Each year she has been chosen as a finalist in the Top 10 or Top 20. This is quite an achievement for a small hat designer/milliner from the Sunshine Coast.

Sandy is sharing her design with you and she hopes you enjoy the photos of her designer headwear that she created for this competition.

Night Moves

To complement the little black dress a must have for the sleek & sassy or full and fabulous wardrobe of the strong modern women, we bring you "Night Moves".

“Night Moves” adds mystique and excitement to the frame of the city landscape. Adding hand shaped sinamay origami twists into the design with a jinsin base in colours that evoke the glamour and style of the city at night.

Sandy Aslett Milliner was also part of the top 20 finalists in the 2019 MIMC Competition and again in 2020 with her creation "Encapsulated", an on trend, recycled piece using flyscreen and nespresso pods.
