The Romance of Flowers

Updated: May 9, 2022

From the Studio of Sandy Aslett Milliner

One of my millinery happy places is the world of flower making. I’ve learnt how to make flowers with some of the most experienced flower makers, who are also milliners. Such a godsend as I love immersing myself in this amazingly creative process.

I get so much inspiration by picking beautiful blooms from the park next door. It’s such a rush to get home whilst the real flower is still vibrant. Studying the flower; the petal shapes and colours connects me with nature and I love showing the beauty of nature in all the flowers I make.

My studio is a wonderful place for me to escape into the dreamy world of flower making. There is a lot to prepare, even before I start cutting out the fabric petals. I have to decide if I want to hand dye fabrics, paint or tipping edges, what flower pattern I am going to use, cutting, wiring and shaping and step by step the list goes on!

I get a lot of enjoyment out of incorporating flower making into my millinery. Making the perfect flower to match a headpiece or hat gives me a great sense of satisfaction and is a fabulous way for my millinery pieces to be unique, elegant and specialised.

What is a queen without her crown? Flowers are one of my millinery crowning glories and I love making them so that you can look amazing.

Going to the races this Spring and still looking for the perfect headpiece or hat? Celebrating a special occasion and want to stand out from the crowd? Or you’re just having a laugh and some champagne? Whatever the event, my fascinators, headpieces or hats are the perfect adornment!

I also make flowers for school semi formals and formal wear, wristband corsages are a beautiful keepsake for special events, bridal wear (including bridesmaids), trims for hats, wedding hats (mother of the bride/groom). The possibilities are endless!

If you are looking for a great hen’s party idea, I also host flower making parties. These wonderfully creative parties are a great way to learn a new skill and celebrate in a relaxed environment.

I’m really happy to be sharing my creative journey into the world of flower making with you. For further information please contact me on 0400 022 303.
